Children, Family &
Other Specialized Mental Health Care

At Family Services of Chemung County, we provide a wide array of community-based outpatient mental health services for children, adolescents, adults, and families. These services incorporate psychosocial assessment, health assessment, crisis intervention, psychiatric evaluation, medication therapy, individual, couples and group therapies, symptom management, and care management services. Additionally, we strive to take a holistic approach when treating our consumers and collaborating with outside providers is a regular practice our clinicians incorporate to achieve treatment goals.

  • General Clinic Services - When solutions to life’s problems seem out of reach. Our professional therapists help children, individuals and families resolve crises, enrich family functioning, enhance parenting, and help manage difficult life events, challenges and transitions. We can help you improve your well-being, your relationships and social connectivity and your overall ability to function at your best.

  • School Based Mental Health Services – Offered in partnership with the Elmira City School District (ECSD), the Elmira Heights School District (EHSD), Finn Academy Charter School, CIS, and Chemung County, which permits Family Services to provide assessment and individual, family, and group health therapists for school-aged children and their families at the ECSD’s eleven schools, EHSD’s three schools, and the charter school.

  • SAY - The Sexually Acting-Out Youth (SAY) Program is a rehabilitation program for youth that have exhibited problematic sexual behavior. Our treatment team will help youth accept responsibility of their offending behavior and reduce their risk of re-offending by identification of personal risk factors, challenging and restructuring associated cognitive distortions, and applying risk management skills. These practices will promote the development of pro-social skills and a network of healthy relationships.

  • Crisis – When a crisis occurs the Crisis Program offers a mobile response team providing face to face or telephone crisis counseling and referral services, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. (607) 442-6900

  • Psychiatry Services - Some people benefit from medication to manage a life situation, whether it be temporary or permanent.  Our Psychiatrists and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners work collaboratively with the clients and Family Services’ therapists to assess and, when needed, develop a pharmaceutical plan in response to a mental illness or traumatic life event. Please consult with your therapist if you believe a psychiatric evaluation is needed.

  • Urgent Care Services – Provides on-site and Emergency Room assessment for individuals in need of immediate mental health assessment, psychiatric evaluation, medication therapy assessment, and referral. (607) 733-5696

If you are in need of services, please contact our intake team at (607) 733-5696 or (607) 737-2490.  They will gather your basic information and help decide which program you are appropriate for.  While waiting to engage in mental health treatment, our intake specialists will help connect you with services within the agency, including care management, as well as other agencies in the community.  We look forward to supporting you and connecting you to the services you need.
